New Furnishings

We finally saw some money from the insurance company for the robbery.  I really wanted to take some of that money and create a lasting piece to our house...sort of a healing thing.
I've been looking at reproduction  pieces and knew we needed a good sized bookshelf, so last weekend, we bought this.
It's very sturdy and well built.  Plus, the shelves are big enough for bigger books.  It's a work in progress, but I like it.  It's funny, in my last two houses, my walls were painted darker colors.  It's hard to get used to the cream.

At the same place, I had my eye on some dry sinks.  They were reproductions too and quite pricey.  So, after my hair appointment yesterday, I scurried over to one of my favorite antique shops.  They were having major sales.  In the barn, a lovely older gent sells furniture.  He was giving a 20% discount.  I told him about my yearning for a dry sink and he had two...both with burled wood.  This is the one I chose...for about $500 less than the repro!
It's just beautiful.  He said it was made in the 1800s and I just love it!  I like the storage to hold my spinning supplies.  Now, the wall above it needs a large piece.  I'm thinking a trip over the the Firecracker Kid and shopping around!  So, the decor is coming along.

My husband and I are planning a decent sized vegetable garden this spring.  We are going to build some raised beds and I hope to add a couple of dwarf apple trees as well.  I envision this:

Time to send for seed catalogs!

I'm making headway on the vintage urn.  Urn and flowers are done and the hit or miss is almost half done...I'll give an update later this week!
Monday's coming......

I'm so sorry, I had no idea about your break in. I was out of the blogging loop there for awhile and missed when you posted it. I went back and read it, oh my, I can't imagine out that would feel. Thank goodness no one was home or hurt.

I love your new pieces. That book shelf is such a nice substantial size and the dry sink is beautiful. You must share your little old antique man's where abouts :)

Ps, hubby was contacted by a place in Littleton, we are still in the interview process, but we may be moving to NH this summer if it works out.

Our seed order came in two weeks ago. It's for the farm/business, so it was a lot of seed. They go in the greenhouse first, because we finally got some cold weather- ice!

I like what you bought for the house.

Great pieces! I will buy an antique any day over a new piece and they usually are a better deal ~ with built in character.
Looking forward to seeing your rug.
Pug hugs :)

Those pieces are great. They would hold a lot of wool too :)
I like the look of those raised garden beds. Looking at seed catalogs is better than looking out at snow.

I love your new furniture! I am in heaven when I browse through the stalls at the antique mall. I don't know why I don't go more often.
Oh, your garden is going to be wonderful!

Hi Courtney,
Love the new pieces...we are book lovers, too. I think bookcases always add warmth to a room. And burl...I love the look of burl...it is so earthy...organic looking. I'll bet that piece is magnificent in person!
I'd say you did very well with your two new additions.
Have a great week,
Robyn

Great pieces, Courtney! Have you ever looked at the Circa Living catalog on line? They have a lot of nice colonial pieces suitable for primitive decor. That would be one beautiful garden. Hope it works out for you.

Hi Courtney.
What a lovely bookcase...I think I could use one of those with all my books...they are in the cupboard that surround the fireplace but I'd like to use that for other kinds of storage. Love the size of yours.
Lovely dry sink...glad you found one.
Blessings,
Karen

Oh, that dry sink is beautiful! I love the wood. I like that the bookshelf seems to have natural wood inside. Very cool!
Ah yes... gardens! Yesterday we went to a huge home and garden show. It seemed to be more home than garden, but it was fun to see flowering trees and lots of flowers. It was fun to wake up those dreams! It made me a little sad about the garden we left at the hold house - we used raised beds there.
Have you ever used PineTree seeds? https://www.superseeds.com/home.php
I get their catalog and enjoy some of their heritage seeds.

What great finds you had; and to think the antique was less than the repro. Way to go Courtney!

You will so enjoy all the fresh veggies and herbs from your garden this summer. I love all vegetables and cannot get enough sweet basil or italian oregano. Come on spring!

A lot of wonderful things happening in your world. The antiques are beautiful. Wow, that stuff is pricey even at a discount. It's always so much fun to get a new piece at a time. It makes you appreciate everything more than having everything all at once.

I'm so glad that you got insurance money come in. It's helps to minimize the loss a bit. Hugs. JB

The furniture is lovely and I want that bookcase. Is it possible to have too many bookcases? I think not.

The wood on that dry sink is lovely
I have three large bookshelves, but nothing as sturdy as your new one. It is so much fun shopping for household furnishings and all the more when you've waited for just the right piece.

The bookcase and dry sink are both beautiful; congratulations! Storage is a wonderful thing (there never can be enough!). :)

Your dream garden looks like mine; isn't that funny? Only mine would have to have about fifty beds of lettuce, we eat so much salad!

Thanks so much for coming by and leaving a note; I always love to have you visit.

Love,

Marqueta
