Hot Off the Frame

Vacation Week!!  Doesn't get any better!  I just love being home, doing lots of hooking, planning a big day of dyeing wool today.  I've really flown through this rug, though all that hit or miss was a task, for sure.

The border is a muted green wool with a touch of rose.  I only have two skeins of homespun to choose from to whip it with.  I'm not sure I like either of them.

Here they are against the rug.

I may end up having to go hunt out a different shade yarn at Wool and Goods.

It's been really fun to find out that some of my fellow blogging friends are getting bitten by the hooking bug.  One thing that has been great for me is how much I've learned with each rug.  I was looking back at some of my earlier efforts and I just have to laugh at those little mats...like this one!
I had no idea what I was doing with this schooner.  The hooking is crazy tight!  The color planning is just off...I wasn't dyeing my own wool back then...just using what I had from thrift stores, as is!  Looking at this and comparing it to my latest rug...well, they're world's apart.

So, if you are just starting off...keep hooking, because things do get easier and the rugs get better!  Thank goodness!

Your rugs are beautiful. The second yarn choice doesn't look "off" to me, bit then I am not exactly sure what you need to do with it! I haven't been bitten by the rug hooking bug, but I've started my first punch needle project.... It may be just a matter of time now!

Hooray for mid-winter break!
I adore your rug... oh, and your 'other' rug, my gift, has been ooed and ahhhed over by quite a few folks. They all love the horse!
I'm working on my first rug slowly. I have the bird finished, except for beak and legs. Then it's the grass, the background and the frame. I don't particularly care for the background color so I'm thinking of getting something else. Have you ever tea-dyed your wool?

Your rug screams "Spring!" Hard to tell from the monitor but the 2nd yarn choice doesn't look bad! Great job! Oh and early rugs - my first one is still in hiding!

It is so true, I keep my first rugs out just so I can see with each rug I get a little smoother and a little more confident. As with everything you have to keep practicing. I hope you get to play with dyes on your vacation. It is like a bug, it bites I don't need to dye anything right now and I keep wishing I did. It is so much fun. I love your new little rug. That is so good and I love the colors.
Have a lovely week!

I love the colors you chose for your new rug. It's a doosie!
I don't have a good enough eye to tell that anythings wrong with your schooner-it looks fine to me.

I'm in love with your flowers! That background is just right up my alley...wild and colorful. Will you show us how you finish your edges? I've tried finishing an edge with yarn only once and made a bit of a mess out of it; I'd love to learn more. PS Why don't you dye your skein to the color you want?

Great rug - I especially like the hit & miss border - even though it DOES take a bit longer to hook. Doesn't it feel good to have it all finished! Yay!

I can post on other people's blog but cannot do a new post on my own. VERY frustrating.

I love that rug, thought about doing it also. To me that background would be harder to do than it looks.

Courtney...you are doing great with your hooking (rug). I remember well the journey from start to as far as I got. It's amazing, isn't it?

Wow! That looks super fun! You DID get a lot done. Happy vacation. There's nothing like it, is there?
It's snowing this morning. We'll have a late start at school and the kids will be a bit restless. We're so close to our state testing now and time is running out!
I wonder where I could learn rug hooking. I'm going to think about that! Have a great day!

Rug hooking is like all other crafts I suppose, the more you do the better you get. Your rug is lovely and you've definitely been quick getting it finished.

That's all kinds of gorgeous Miss Courtney!! I love it! And I can see your happiness and satisfaction in the process of hooking this one somehow.... Sure wish I could say I was getting better as I go - for me, it seems the opposite - I think I was actually better when I first started out.....I seem to hook tighter and tighter. Well....at least that was the case the last few rugs I hooked - but it's been a while! Hope to change that soon. Why don't you dye the whipping yarn??? Hope you've been enjoying your vacation week! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
