I always like to welcome in a new blogger to Blogland! I recently stumbled across Patty's blog! She can be found over at Bluebirds and Jam. Patty is a fellow primitive rug hooker and makes wonderful rugs. She also makes some lovely dolls as well. I know you'll like what you see and give her a wonderful hooker's welcome!
My fight with the woodchucks has tapered off, I'm happy to say!! I've only seen one a couple of times lately...I think the fact that I was running out there every 15 minutes did the trick. LOL So, now, I'm only fighting the drought we're having. Funny, the lack of rain doesn't seem to stop the zucchini from producing!
Looks like some stuffed zucchini is in my future! I like to use a recipe from Susan Branch's Heart of the Home Cookbook. She stuffs it with zucchini, onion, tomato, and herbs, then tops it off with jack cheese and sourdough croutons...yum!
Despite the heat of summer, I've been hooking steadily on the chicken rug.
Mama hen is almost finished...except for one foot. I'm almost half way finished. The blue is not as bright as this picture shows. It's getting heavy though. I have a puritan frame which I should be using, but I don't really like it all that well. I need a gripper frame which I can turn and tilt. Right now, I'm using a hoop frame and feel like I'm going to bust it with this rug! Anyone have a favorite rug frame they can recommend? I'd actually like to sell the puritan. It has a floor stand as well.
Not much else happening. I had to work last week for two days. We were creating a curriculum map which would align to the common core standards. Sounds fascinating, huh? It was actually pretty interesting and the two days went by fast. I'm glad to be back on vacation though. Mr. S & W is off this week...so hopefully we'll get out to take a couple of good day trips.

Lovin' your rug. I use a Puritan, too, and for me it is a balancing act. Even though it is easy to move the rug, I just turn the frame and balance it the best I can. One of these days I also plan to buy a frame that tilts, but I must say the Puritan has served me well for 7+ years.
Your zucchini recipe sounds yummy. We need rain badly, too, and there is supposed to be a good chance today, but so far no luck.

I've planted and enjoyed zucchini ever since I can remember but this year I passed. I've tried to stir fry unripe buttercup squash a couple of years ago Instead of zucchini as we had so many left in the fields at harvest and to my surprise every one loved it better than zucchini.
I'll be stir frying some tender baby buttercup squash and all my family agree that it's much better tasting. Plus I don't have to worry about what to do with those giant zucchini at the end of the season. We grow squash for our church suppers every fall and donate a truck load.

Your chix rug is adoreable and nice loops too. I hated my Puritan and sold it. I have a couple frames and use them intermittenly depending on size and if I have more than one rug oing on at a time. After selling the Puritan I purchased a 'sit-upon' gripper which swivels and rotates. Your spine is NOT sitting on it but rather your thighs hold it in place so you are free to swivel the frame top on a ball.
I also have a Snapdragon frame which I use most, and it is larger than my sit-upon so hook larger rugs on the Snapdragon.
Love zucchini and most often steam it and put pasta sauce on top and pretend I'm eating a specialty of an italian restaurant.

Love zucchini! I've been making lots of great recipes -- try Martha Stewart's Orange Zuccini cakes and her Zucchini Fritters. And my favorite pasta recipe : zucchini matchsticks sauteed in olive oil added to hot pasta with finely chopped mint and a sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese. Yummy and easy!

I often substitute zucchini for the carrot in my carrot cake recipe. It is an odd little recipe I found years ago in Cooking Light magazine, but it tastes really good, it is lower in fat and substitutes prune puree for the vegetable oil. It comes out really moist. Then I use a cream cheese frosting on top.
